Post-apocalyptic robot dinosaurs. These are probably the only four words that needed to be spoken in the pitch meeting that green-lit Horizon Zero Dawn. Pivoting away from their first-person shooter comfort zone, Guerrilla Games shocked everyone when they announced Horizon Zero Dawn. This open-world action game is, in my opinion, the finest work the studio has put out to date. The combat system is fun and diverse, with a multitude of options to approach any encounter. There’s plenty to do as you explore the world, with side-quests that feel more personal than the “go there and get that” fare of other games. The story is top-notch, with a vibrant world full of interesting characters and features an outstanding performance by Ashly Burch as Aloy. It’s also one of the best-looking games to come out this year from top to bottom. Horizon Zero Dawn more than earns its spot as the 4th best game of 2017.
Why This Game?
My decision to go for the full platinum comes down to a couple of different things for Horizon: Zero Dawn. It’s both an awesome game that I was happy to continue playing and the remainder of trophies weren’t that bad to round up in the end. Don’t get me wrong, this shouldn’t be on your short list for easy platinums, but if you’re going to play it anyway, you may as well go the full distance. Considering it’s a game where you fight giant robot dinosaurs, control a complex and badass female character and the story is engaging and interesting, there are plenty of reasons to play it and grab that platinum by the end.
Now that a little time has passed since E3 2015, I’ve had some time to reflect back on some of the awesome titles from the big developers. A few of them we’ve seen before and there were even some that are brand new, but all of them are going to rock my socks off when they finally come out. You might be sick of hearing about them by now, but I just wanted to take a minute to give props to all of the big games that excite me most from E3 2015.
