Fathers Day is a time to celebrate those unsung heroes: the fathers. That parent who makes sure you know right from wrong and is always willing to get their hands dirty. The unwavering granite that you can always rely upon. Today however, I’m not just here to talk about any old father, I’m of course here to discuss MY father. So, without further ado, I give you 5 things I love about my father.

FathersDay

He’s Smart

If I ever have a question that needs answering, I don’t go to the internet. I know that the correct answer to my question is just a simple phone call away. Like a true pro, he may not know everything, but his unrelenting resolve to figure it out is what really makes him smart.

He’s Dependable

Whenever I’ve been in a jam, whether it be a car accident or just a bad day, I know my dad has my back. Just one call and he’s willing to drop everything to make sure that I can pull out of that situation just fine. Just the simple knowledge of that fact always makes me feel one heck of a lot safer every day of my life.

He Cares

It’s easy to get frustrated with someone when they remind you of something over and over again. Or if they pester you to get something done that you just don’t feel like doing. Why do they do this? It’s because they’re pushing you towards doing the right thing because they care about you. My father is constantly making sure I’m staying on the right track and, at the risk of sounding a little self-righteous, he’s done a pretty-darned good job.

He Shares

One thing that’s easy to forget about your parents is that they had quite a bit of life experience before you came around. It would be easy for them to be hands off and just let you do your own thing, and they should to an extent, but there’s something to be said about making an effort to share. You might not know you love something or you might not know you can do something until you’re pushed towards doing it yourself by someone that’s already been there. So, don’t just shrug it off, listen because he’s got some great things to show you.

He’s Mine

I only have to share with a select few people. If you want him, then you’ve got to go through me first, because I wouldn’t give him up for anything. He’s the best father in the world and I’m lucky to have him in my life. If I don’t say it enough, then know that I love you dad and there’s no one in the world I would rather have for my father on fathers day!
