Why This Game?
This one was a personal vendetta that needed a conclusion. Back when it first came out, I actually made an honest attempt to get this platinum trophy. After running into trouble a few times, I put it on hold for a little while. Then, the unthinkable happened, my PS3 died and took my inFamous save right with it. Picking it back up, since most of the missing trophies were just the evil side stuff, I managed to finally check this one off my list.
Was it Quick?
Collectively for me, no this was not a particularly quick one. If you’re doing everything properly from the start, it shouldn’t be too bad, but it’ll still likely be a relatively lengthy process. The real killer here is the 100% completion it requires, which can really take up some time. I’ll get into some specifics in the other sections, but suffice to say that there is plenty to do and a lot of it is kind of out of your way. (4 out of 10)
Was it Easy?
This would be a relatively easy yes if not for two words: blast shards. The game gives you a fairly innovative way of finding these collectibles, by simply pushing a button you can see any around you on your mini-map. The problem rears its ugly head when you have almost no way of tracking what you’ve already collected. Aside from a total count, which is also fairly hard to find, there is no way to get any kind of an idea of where your remaining shards are located. This makes the whole process way more difficult than it needs to be and requires a very exact process in acquiring all 350 of them. Everything else is pretty easy, even beating the game on hard, but the blast shard situation is enough of a grind to ramp up the difficulty significantly. (4 out of 10)
Was It Fun?
inFamous remains to be an incredibly fun open world game. It’s certainly showing its age at this point, and the evil choices are laughably dumb, but I still had a blast playing it again. That being said, let’s go into some further detail about how you need to get all of the blast shards. There is a guide that I will link to here that separates every island into sections that you can go through one at a time. I’ll just say it: finding all of the blast shards was not fun. It is a grind that could have easily not been awful if there was even a way to tell how many shards you have left on each island. If you want to get this platinum, it’s not a big enough reason to avoid it, but man was it a bummer. (6 out of 10)
Any Other Thoughts?
One of my favorite series to this day, the original inFamous both shows its age and holds up surprisingly well. If you’ve never played this game, it is well worth your time to check out. If you’re looking for a quick, easy and fun platinum trophy to grab on the other hand, I would recommend looking elsewhere. This one was more of a personal vendetta for me and I’m glad that I got it done, even if it was a bit of a drag at times.
